Ran Dian magazine is owned and run by its editors. It was launched in 2010 in Shanghai by Chris Moore, Daniel Szehin Ho and Rebecca Catching. Publishing in Chinese and English Ran Dian promote independent cultural debate in China and foster intellectual exchange between China and the rest of the world. This means independent commentary on art, artists, exhibitions and galleries.
This Special Issue is mainly compiled by two editors, each almost independently responsible for roughly half of the magazine. In our opinion this working method is also a reflection of the independent attitude of Ran Dian. The book was produced using two very different paper stock and printing technique to represent each of their parts, and finally put together.
